    • Studies changes in specialty area and seeks additional knowledge on unique problems and conditions, new treatments, medications and equipment.

Principal duties:
The Clinical Physician Assistant collaborates with physicians, counselors, and other health care
clinicians in the care of patients as a colleague with expertise in ambulatory care, participates in
the instructional programs of the Department of Family Medicine, and contributes to outreach,
research and scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the Department of Family Medicine.
Utilizing a physician assistant/medical model, the Clinical Physician Assistant will deliver patient
care for a full range of patient problems at the clinic. The clinical practice will include assessment
of the condition and need of the patient, patient education, counseling, anticipatory guidance and
direct patient care. The physician assistant will provide primary medical services emphasizing the
diagnosis and management of acute and urgent diseases following established standards and
practices as well as health promotion and disease prevention.
90% Primary Medical Services.
1. Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
2. Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as
needed.
3. Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
4. Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Follow up on all
tests ordered.
5. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of
prevention.
6. Consult on a regular basis and on an as needed basis with the physician staff per supervision
agreement following
accepted protocols.
7. All encounters with patients will be reviewed and countersigned by physician staff.
8. When the diagnosis and/or management of an acute or chronic disease requires a higher level
of decision making,
i.e., moderate or high complexity, after discussion with the physician staff, a
decision should be made to
the appropriateness of referral/evaluation/follow-up by a resident or faculty
physician.
9. Participate in patient care conferences and the formulation of individual care plan.
10. Prescribe medication as appropriate per approved formularies.
11. Administer medications and injections according to physician and/or regulatory guidelines.
12. Instruct patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions.
13. Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
14. Participate in the development and implementation of medical policies, procedures and medical
standards of care.
15. Participate in the design, implementation, and review of clinical outcomes.
5% Administrative Responsibilities.
1. Participate in quality improvement committees and activities per clinic requirements.
2. Serve on clinic and residency program committees.
3. Provide leadership and/or expertise to community organizations.

5% Educational Responsibilities.
1. Participate in the education of Family Medicine resident physicians or other health care students by:
a) informal teaching through demonstration and through shared responsibility for patient care;
b) formal teaching in rounds, seminars, consultation groups, and other teaching sessions and involvement in curriculum planning and development;
c) modeling of the Physician Assistant role in patient care;
d) collaborative planning, provision and evaluation of student learning experiences, including evaluation of
Family Medicine residents in training;
e) clinical and/or didactic education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Be a graduate of a PA educational program accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) on behalf of the American Medical Association.
Have and maintain board certification as a physician assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) without additional education and training.

General Summary of Duties:
The Physician Assistant will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate population at the Federal Prison at Oxford, Wisconsin. The Physician Assistant shall take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays. The Physician Assistant shall make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications.
The Physician Assistant will clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing, and will attend to medical emergencies. Emergency consultation to be performed by the Physician Assistant in instances where deemed necessary. Minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia may be performed during consultation visits. Other Duties include the following:
1. Working collaboratively with the staff physicians(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans. Evaluate findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
2. Physician Assistant manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations.
3. Provide a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physician, including primary care for trauma and life-saving procedures.
4. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for submitting medical reports as follows:
Make medical record entries. (on forms provided by the institution medical staff) that provide all information pertaining to the services rendered i.e. specimen(s) obtained, and documenting data related to the patient encounter.
5. The Physician Assistant is expected to wear professional clothing, covered by a lab coat or smock.

Work Hours:
The Physician Assistant shall work four (4) days per week, for a total of 28-30 hours per week. These hours must be worked during the week (Monday through Friday), with no work on Federal holidays or on the weekends. Educational Requirements:
